Hotel Martinelli is located in Ronzo-Chienis, the largest of a string of small villages in the enchanting Val di Gresta, known in Italy as the kitchen garden of Trentino. Val di Gresta is a 1.5 hour drive from Milan and from Venice, in south-western Trentino, Italy´s northern-most province before Austria and Switzerland.
At a thousand meters high, Ronzo offers commanding and spectacular views of the Alpine mountaintops above and below Italy´s largest lake, Garda. All around are terraced organic plots, orchards, and vineyards that engage the mind, and the palate and are a window on the daily life of the valley´s inhabitants. In the morning, a magic mountain mist embraces the valley, and Hotel Martinelli is the perfect place to intimately observe the drama of cloud formation and weather conspiring on the plains below . . . while you reside in strong high altitude sunshine.
Tranquility, contact with nature, mild climate and clean air are all at the heart of our eco-tourism. Enjoy an escape from everyday life, delight your palate with unique local flavors, and revel in the sounds of nature.
For forty years the Martinelli family has been welcoming visitors, travelers and adventurers to the valley and showing that the hospitality business doesn´t need to feel like a business when it´s run by a caring family. The hotel was renovated in 2003 offering a welcoming lobby/reception area, an elevator to serve its 4 floors, a modern bar and hybrid state-of-the-art but traditional kitchen.
The hotel was built in 1969 by Giovanni Martinelli, with the intent of building a farm house for him and his siblings. Giovanni Martinelli and his late wife Franca Gentili were the driving force of the hotel, with the decisive collaboration of their son Mirko who has been involved in this endeavor since childhood. Uncles, aunts, and cousins all help at the bar, the tables, the kitchen or cleaning the rooms.
Franca Gentili was an important figure for the Ronzo community having been its mayor for 12 years until her untimely death in 1999. Franca was a quintessential Grestana. After running Ronzo for 12 years, her constituents urged her to run for a third term, and she offered in her typical down to earth way: "The first time is to learn, the second time is to get things done, the third time is to annoy people". She even made national news when she declined to accept a pay increase from the province.
Martinelli´s is the social epicenter of the valley. You will meet a memorable cast of characters and you´ll have a hard time paying for a drink because hospitality and generosity are a serious business around here. Our restaurant acquired its reputation through our traditional cuisine that includes a selection of unique vegetarian meals and the showcasing of organic, locally grown vegetables.
Martinelli has received an Ecolabel in appreciation of its dedicated efforts to protect the environment.
